Privacy Policy

We designed the Site to work with almost no personal information. We do not run advertising, we do not embed third-party advertising or social trackers, we do not sell or rent your information, and we do not build profiles about you. We do not use your information to target you with ads anywhere.

You do not need an account to read the Site or to use the general tools. When you use it signed out, we do not create a record about you. What you type into a tool is processed to produce your answer and is then discarded (see clause 5), and our analytics are aggregate and cannot identify you (see clause 8). Anonymous use stores nothing tied to you.

There are a few ways we may hold information about you:

Your account. If you create an account, we store your email address, your display name if you provide one, the sign-in methods you link (for example Google or Apple, or an email and password), your account roles, and your plan tier. We also record the date you accepted these account terms. We do not store your password itself; passwords are protected using one-way hashing, so we never hold a copy we could read.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address, the track you chose (patient or clinician), and a timestamp recording your consent to receive email. We use this only to send the newsletter you asked for and to honor your unsubscribe request.

Aggregate analytics. We measure how the Site is used in aggregate, without cookies and without identifying you (see clause 8).

Account data is kept secure. It is encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest, it is tied to your account, and it belongs to you. The right way to think about it is the saved memory in a consumer AI assistant: private to your account, useful to you, and something you can take with you or remove whenever you want.

This is a consumer product, not a HIPAA-covered service. anesthesia.ai is not a covered entity or a business associate under HIPAA, and we do not sign business associate agreements (BAAs). Nothing you store here is a medical record, and it is not part of your care. Please keep information you save to what is for you, or for a family member you personally care for. If you are a clinician, do not store information that identifies patients you treat. Use the general tools for that, and leave out personal details.

When you use tools that ask for details, such as the surgery preparation sheet or an anesthesia question, the words you type are processed to generate your answer or document and are then discarded. We do not store that narrative, and we do not keep it in a profile tied to you. If you are signed out, or you do not save anything, the document you build lives with you, not with us.

Some things are saved, and you stay in control of all of them.When you are signed in, we save a small set of things so you can reuse them. Most are saved only when you confirm the save. You confirm the specific facts you keep, such as a medication or a condition, saved to the profile for that person. You confirm a whole prep document you build, saved to that person's profile so you can re-open it later. The surgery reminders you turn on for a person are also saved. When you turn reminders on, we store that surgery's date and the reminder schedule, and we email your account address before the surgery. You can turn those reminders off at any time.

Connecting a medical record. You can connect a medical record from a health system you authorize. When you connect one, we read your medications, your conditions, your allergies, your past procedures, your implanted devices, your height and weight, and where available your lab results, your reports, and your clinical notes (documents such as operative and anesthesia notes, including part of the text of the document). We show all of it to you to confirm. We save only the items you confirm, to the profile for the person you chose. We do not store the connection token, and we do not store your medical record. The items you save follow the same encryption and deletion as the rest of the health profile (see clauses 10 and 11).

Your Ask history is saved automatically.This one is different: it has no separate confirm step. When you are signed in and you ask a question with a person selected, we save that question and its answer to that person's profile, so you can revisit it later. Selecting a person for the question is what turns the save on. Anonymous questions, and questions you ask with no person selected, are never saved. We store all of the things in this clause encrypted, and you can delete any of them at any time (see clauses 10 and 11). If you use the Site without an account, we store nothing. If you are signed in, we store only what this clause describes: the details and prep documents you confirm, the reminders you turn on, and the questions and answers from asks you make with a person selected.

We use your account data only to run your account and provide the features you sign in for. We use the newsletter information solely to send and manage the emails you subscribed to. We use aggregate analytics only to understand which topics and tools are useful, so we can improve them. We do not use any of it for advertising, for profiling, or for any purpose you did not reasonably expect when you provided it.

We never sell your personal information. We never share it with data brokers. We never place advertising or health-topic ad trackers on the Site. We never use your information to target advertising to you, on this Site or anywhere else. We do not use geofencing around any location, including healthcare facilities, to identify or reach you.

Our analytics are privacy-first. They are cookieless and count events in aggregate. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not attempt to fingerprint or re-identify you. Aggregate counts tell us that a page was useful; they do not tell us who you are.

Some information you might choose to enter or save, such as a medication or a condition, is consumer health data under laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar state laws. We hold ourselves to that standard for everyone, not only residents of those states:

Opt-in consent at collection. We ask for your clear, affirmative consent at the point where you choose to enter or save health details, and we explain what will happen before you do.

No sale, no targeted advertising. We never sell consumer health data and never use it for targeted advertising.

No geofencing. We do not operate any geofence around healthcare facilities.

Right to access and delete. You may ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it (see clause 10).

We acknowledge that several of these state laws carry a private right of action, meaning individuals can enforce them directly, and we have built the Site to meet the strictest reading of them.

Export your data. If you have an account, you can download a copy of your account data at any time from your account page. The export includes your profile, your linked sign-in methods, your roles, your plan, the people you have saved, the health profile saved for each of them, the prep documents saved for each of them, the surgery reminders you set for each of them, and the saved questions and answers for each of them. It never includes your password. You can also export or delete the data for one person on its own, not only the whole account, from the same page.

Delete your account. You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deletion is permanent and removes your account together with everything linked to it, including your linked sign-in methods, your roles, the people you have saved, the health profile saved for each of them, the prep documents saved for each of them, the surgery reminders you set for each of them, and the saved questions and answers for each of them. There is no waiting period and no recovery, so please be sure before you confirm.

Unsubscribe. Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also visit the unsubscribe page linked from any email. Unsubscribing stops all further email.

Other requests. To make any other privacy request, or if you need help exercising a right, email us at [email protected]. We will confirm and complete your request within a reasonable time, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, that data is removed. We keep any health profile you save until you delete it. You can delete a single saved fact, delete one person, or delete your whole account, and once you do, we remove the saved facts. We keep any prep document you save until you delete it, and deleting the prep, the person, or your account removes it the same way. We keep any surgery reminders you set until you delete them or turn them off, and deleting the person or your account removes them the same way. When you are signed in and ask a question with a person selected, we keep that question and its answer until you delete the saved item, the person, or your account. We keep your newsletter record only for as long as you remain subscribed, plus a short period after you unsubscribe so we can honor the unsubscribe. Prep-sheet inputs are not retained beyond the moment they are processed. Questions are the same, with one exception: an anonymous question, and a question you ask with no person selected, are not retained beyond the moment they are processed; only a question you ask with a person selected while signed in is saved, as described above. Aggregate analytics contain no personal information and are kept only in aggregate form.

The Site is intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. Account data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, never in a form we can read. No system is perfectly secure, but keeping as little as possible, and letting you delete what we do keep, is itself a strong protection.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If a change is significant, we will make a reasonable effort to highlight it.
