Who made this
anesthesia.ai is a personal project by Jack Neil, MD, a practicing anesthesiologist. It is free, carries no ads, and uses no trackers. It is not tied to any hospital, and it delivers no company's services.
Why it exists
Almost everyone who has surgery has questions the night before, and most of them are hard to ask out loud. Will I wake up? Will I feel anything? What about the medication I take? People deserve honest, plain-language answers from someone who does this work, not a brochure and not a guess.
Clinicians deserve better too. The people keeping patients safe often reach for slow, dated, or paywalled tools for the everyday math and reference they use dozens of times a day. Fast, free, well-referenced tools should just exist.
So this is one place that tries to serve both: calm, honest answers for patients, and quick, cited tools for the clinicians who care for them.
How the answers work
The answers here are grounded in a corpus of licensed and permitted professional sources, and every answer shows the sources it rests on and when they were last reviewed. When the sources do not cover a question well, the Site says so plainly and points you back to your care team rather than making something up. Honest and cited beats confident and wrong, especially in medicine.
None of this is medical advice, and none of it replaces your own anesthesia team. It is here to help you understand and to help you prepare good questions. You can read the full Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
A note on independence
Jack is also the founder of a healthcare AI company, Hank AI. This site is separate from that company. It is a personal project, it delivers none of Hank AI's services, and it has no runtime dependency on them. If you arrived looking for billing, coding, or claims tools, the links below point you to where those actually live, with full disclosure of the connection.
Looking for something else?
This site answers anesthesia questions and helps patients prepare for surgery. If you came here for billing, coding, or claims tools, those live elsewhere:
- Billing and coding tools: HANK Codes
- Claims workflow: ClaimMaker
- Something else in that world: hank.ai
Separate company. This site delivers none of those services; the only connection is that Jack built this site and owns that company.
